Underpinning is the process of strengthening and deepening the foundations of your home. This is generally done as a remedy for damage caused by a failing foundation. Cracks in walls and windows or doors jamming are obvious signs of movement in a structure that indicate the need for foundation repair.
Underpinning may also be required as a part of a renovation or extension in order to improve the performance of the foundations to meet the requirements of the new structure.
Traditional underpins are the most common and consist of mass filled concrete to deepen foundations to a better founding material. Should the site require foundations deeper than that possible with traditional underpinning, Micropile or Screwpile Underpins may be utilised as a solution. These involve the installation of a concrete or steel pile beneath the existing foundations.
The traditional method of underpinning is a permanent solution that allows for a controlled and precise means of rectifying distress to your foundations.
